happy to be the book couple

CAROL & GARY ROSENBERG of Boca Raton, FL, are book-publishing professionals with more than 20 years of experience in the industry. As editor and book designer, respectively, Carol and Gary have had the pleasure of working together on hundreds of books for various publishers, including Avery Publishing, Penguin-Putnam, Square One Publishers, HCI Books, Turner Publishing, Changing Lives Press, and Basic Health Publications. From New York City to South Florida, they are firsthand witnesses to the changing landscape of book publishing and have seen the dream of having a book published become more accessible to anyone who is passionate about becoming an author.

As The Book Couple, they team up to bring their traditional publishing expertise to the self-publishing arena, offering their authors friendly and individualized attention. Individually, they continue to serve publishers and independent authors in their areas of expertise.

GARY ROSENBERG is a multitalented book-production expert who has been in trade book publishing for more than twenty years. He has amassed a varied production portfolio that includes well over 1,000 traditionally published books as well as hundreds of independently published titles. His clients include successful trade book publishers such as Avery Publishing, Square One Publishers, Basic Health Publications, HealthPoint Press, TakeCharge Books, Changing Lives Press, and The Refractive Thinker Press. He has also worked on titles for Penguin-Putnam, Storey Publishing, Harcourt-Brace, and MacMillan/McGraw-Hill.

While traditional publishing undergoes rapid changes—with the rising popularity of digital and print-on-demand options—and self-publishing becomes increasingly more popular, Gary keeps abreast of the latest technology to provide his clients with quality services that are comparable to those performed by traditional publishers. The result is a product that is virtually indistinguishable from a book backed by a traditional trade book publisher.

Gary’s experience extends to all areas of the book design and typesetting stages of production, including cover design, interior layout, publishing consulting, e-book preparation, and promotional materials. Gary’s portfolio is constantly expanding, as he lends his services to both indie authors and traditional publishers alike. Gary’s portfolio can be found here.

CAROL KILLMAN ROSENBERG of Boca Raton, Florida, is  an editorial specialist serving traditional publishers and independent authors. Prior to cofounding The Book Couple with her partner Gary Rosenberg, Carol was the managing editor of HCI Books, a Florida-based trade book publisher best known for the original Chicken Soup for the Soul series and other popular bestsellers. HCI Books recruited Carol in 2006 to develop and implement book production protocols—from manuscript to printed book—and to liaison with art and design, publicity, marketing, sales, and printing. Carol adopted the role of acquisitions editor at HCI Books as well, with the NY Times bestselling memoir iWant: My Journey from Addiction and Overconsumption to a Simpler, Honest Life by Jane Velez-Mitchell to her credit.

Prior to being recruited by HCI, Carol was the offsite managing editor of Basic Health Publications, Inc., of Laguna Beach, California, which specializes in alternative health and fitness books. Carol and Gary Rosenberg managed all aspects of the editorial and production process of 200 books for Basic Health since its inception in 2001 from their home office. During this time, Carol also had the pleasure of editing for Square One Publishers, an independent trade book publisher based in Garden City Park, New York, and worked on such diverse topics as the I Ching, blackjack, weight-loss surgery, magic, numerology, humor, herbs, retirement, and public speaking.

Carol began her career in publishing as an associate editor at Avery Publishing, a highly successful, cutting-edge alternative health book publisher in Long Island, New York. When Penguin-Putnam acquired Avery Publishing, Carol was recruited to work in Penguin’s copyediting department as the alternative health book specialist. In this position, Carol was also able to seize the opportunity to work on fiction titles published by Penguin, Viking, and G.P. Putnam & Sons.

with all your heart to give yourself to it.”
